I began taking photos without planning to become a photographer.
My passion revolves around architecture, artisanship, history, construction, abandonment, and our efforts to master nature and our world. Though first accepted to Temple University’s School of Architecture, I did not attend, but that’s a story for another time.
At first, photography meant taking before, during, and after pictures of construction-related projects for my company, The Artisans Group. These were primarily historic restoration, and repairing structural, animal/insect, weather, and water damage. In time, we added an expert witness practice that provided expertise to attorneys, insurance companies, owners, contractors, and others, in building codes, building science, standards of practice, and regulations of agencies such as OSHA and EPA. Photographs were included in certified reports in Courts of Law throughout five states.
As my career evolved, I ultimately retired as Director of Safety from a major New Jersey electrical contractor, where photography was part of incident investigation, but also brief breaks to marvel at the scenery from unusual vantage points that we don’t normally see, including huge scale and complexities of our major construction.
Today, I love to photograph architecture, and historic and abandoned structures and machinery, spotlight artisanship and ingenuity, display nature’s beauty and tenacity, and present the ongoing competition between nature and our built world. I hope that you like my work!
