I/Eyewitness
I am honored to have been invited to exhibit my Abandonment photography series at The Liberty Museum and Art Center, along with the work of ten other excellent local and regional artists. The show will run from July 4 – August 24, 2025. The reception will be held on July 12.
What is Abandonment Photography?
During my construction career, my pictures focused on shots of the construction (progress photos, the finished "Voila!", etc.), plus issues like code compliance, regulations, and risk management. Honestly, they were surely less artistic and really just snapshots.
Abandonment photography is different. It celebrates both what we built: architecture, machines, infrastructure, and even furniture, for example, and also what happens when we abandon them. In general, we abandon them because of money, which gets into a boring business discussion. What’s beautiful and artistic is that when Nature takes over, interesting things happen. Plants and animal life start to flourish, architecture and engineering start to change, and a certain fascinating aesthetic that is beautiful and awe-inspiring in its own way is created.
